This is one of those random type of things. If I'm in scfg and go to a subboard and start to cursor left and right, sometimes I'll get artifacts of the previous entry in the short name.
Looks like a possible conio issue to me. Can you reproduce the same problem in other output modes (e.g. SDL instead of X)?

When this happens, if you move the selection bar up or down, does the short name then get "fixed"? If not, I would then try selecting the short name (clicking or hitting enter) and see if it's corrupted in the edit box too.

It may be an issue with scaled windows. I couldn't repeat the exact issue but I got this.
{width=651 height=256}
Part of "LEVEL" is missing, but when I dragged the window to move it, it appeared and now I cannot replicate it.
I'll test with other output modes when I get a chance.
